Okay, were in Lakeville now. It is 11:10, which means I’m still about half an hour behind schedule, which puts me finishing around 1pm. We’ve got one more stop in between, which I think is about an hour from now. It went back to a heavy sprinkle and the roads are still very wet. Had some ugliness on a gravel part of a road they had un-paved and turned into a gravel road temporarily. But generally doing okay; my neck and shoulders are aching quite a bit, mostly because of spending a lot of time in the drops, I think. Otherwise things are mostly okay. Not necessarily losing too much power, but I’m back at an aerobic pace. But other than that, still trying to maintain the positive attitude, which is okay. It did cool off a little bit; it’s about 60 degrees right now, which is right about the edge of being comfortable, but I still have the rain jacket if I really need to suit up, but I don’t expect to need it. That’s it from here; generally making progress, although at 84 miles, that means we still have about 26 left to go, so we’ll see how that goes. Gonna take it easy and nurse myself home, and then I’ll have something like 210 miles under my belt of the 290 we have to go. That’s it for now.

Whew! Well, it's 86 degrees out now and definitely a steambath, but I am now 84 miles in, at Lakeville. I left Jay behind at the lunch stop.

Still well ahead of the crowd. I kinda took it easy on that segment and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Basically there's two segments left: from here we hit Wareham and then we hit MMA, which is a mere eight miles past Wareham. We're getting toward the end of it, but there's still a lot of pedaling left to go.

It is now 10:41, which puts me about ten minutes behind a record pace. But I'm not trying to set any records today, just trying to get to MMA in time to get a nice long, cold shower, and then a (hopefully longer than) 15 minute massage. I'm looking forward to that after such a hot, wet, sticky day in the saddle.

My thighs are starting to feel a little crampy, and my knee continues to bother me. I'm taking care of those, just kind of taking it easy and letting the miles go by. I'm pretty happy, just a little moist right now, but otherwise just generally having a good time.

I was hoping to meet up with my buddy Bobby Mac at the mecahnical tent, but he doesn't seem to be at this stop, as we expected him to be, but that's alright. A lot of respect to Bobby and all the people at Quad Cycles that I ride with out in Arlington.

That's it for now. I need a little rest and will take a little bit of a break at this stop, since I am ahead of the pack, and then just mosey on down the road to Wareham, which is the last long segment of the ride. That's it from here!

Hey, we're in Lakeville and it's only 10:34. 82.26 miles in, and I really actually can't believe that beause my legs are still strong. I'm averaging 18.5 mph, and although my legs are burning, I seem to be reaching every rest stop before I anticipate it, so it's not this game of like "When's the next rest stop?" Feeling really strong. It feels like the whole route is shorter in every way than I remember. Doing really well, again gonna do the same thing: a really quick in and out, just grab some ice, maybe a little stretching, and keep going. The sun has really broken through the clouds -- high thin clouds a little bit -- but it's really warm out now. It's above 80, so when you stop it's pretty moist. Otherwise having a great ride, the only thing I wish was that Jay was here, but he's a good 20 minutes behind me at least. Things are going well, and I guess I'll catch up with him at Mass Maritime. Look for me again very shortly; I'll have a message from Wareham which will be the 100 mile point, which apparently is about 15 miles from here. That's it from Lakeville.

Well I've made it to Lakeville now, which is 85 miles into the ride, and so we've only got about 25-odd left.

Lakeville, obviously, is a place that has lots of ponds and streams and swamps and lakes, including Long Pond and Snipatuit Pond. We kind of go between them on what's called Neck Road, which is very scenic.

Not only do they not have spokes at this rest stop at the mechanical tent, but in fact there is no mechanical tent because the mechanical guy hasn't shown up.

So we continue with the busted wheel, but things seem to be holding together well. My average speed is still pretty decent at around 17.5, so we're moving along.

My heart rate monitor tells me my average heart rate is 126, so I've been keeping it within reason, although every once in a while I'm up above 160 to 170. That's kind of my peak, but with an average of 126, that's not too bad.

Starting to feel it a little bit, but not bad. And by the time I get to Wareham, which is the next stop and the penultimate stop, I will have done a hundred miles. So fifteen miles down the road I'll talk to you again.

Okay, we're now in Lakeville, 85 miles into the ride, so we're getting there. The last leg wasn't too bad. It was a little shorter, and I took the time to talk to a couple of people along the way, so it was a kinda pleasant little ride. It's getting damn hot, but still no signs of rain. A little partly cloudy but it is really humid, so if we get rain it's probably gonna be a big thunderstorm. It's now 11:45, which is pretty much right on my schedule, and we've got something like a little more than 25 miles left to go. Feeling pretty good. The next water stop is Wareham, where we will be at 100 miles and that's the most I've done in training; I did that last weekend. Having a pretty good time and talking to a few people, and moving right along. Gonna get my massage; I'm really looking forward to that (heh), as well as a nice cold shower. But so far everything's going fine and enjoying the ride. And very much appreciate the assistance of the people who have sponsored me, whether it's for the first time or repeat sponsors, it means a lot to me and it obviously has contributed to something absolutely huge, as this event starts to rival the Jerry Lewis March of Dimes Telethon in terms of how much money it raises. That's it for now. I'm gonna go refill my water bottle and get the heck out of Dodge. I'll talk to you in about an hour!

Okay, we've made Lakeville, which is two stops from the end. We are at mile 85. It's well into the 90s now and damn hot. Just trying to keep the wheels together right now. The last section was kind of long and a little bit painful, so it's definitely starting to wear, but this is the time in the ride that it usually does; at 85 miles things start getting really hard, so we'll see how it is from here on out. But right now gonna take a couple of minutes, refill my water bottles, and head out. Still riding with Charlie and company and we've made a good pace, although we're not killing ourselves, so it's pretty happy. Enjoying the ride and getting plenty of warm sunshine and lots of sweat, so I'll talk to you soon from Onset, which is the the last stop before the end (at least for today). All's going well and wish you all were here.
