Well, in this case mostly L. Memories of you are always affectionate, but tinged with a bit of regret about how things ended last. The Puggle... Well, he's a point of pain, I have to admit, but I couldn't ever regret his presence. But when things really burn, it's usually L. There's one heck of a lot of scarring there, I have to admit.
I can understand the sentiment, but I can't agree with it. The midnight thought process is often not fully rational, and should not be trusted.
I could have been spared much pain in the last 3 years, but I also would have missed out on some very good things. The trick is making the sum total of the good stuff outweigh the bad.
Definitely agree with the comment on the midnight thought process. That's what I was trying to capture, really, more than capture any truth, because I knew the truth is something other than that. But just the truth of that midnight emotion.
We are who we are not because of the things that have happened to us, but rather by the choices we make. The truest semblance of character is not that one has loved once nor a hundred times but that one remains faithful to oneself no matter the whirlwind of life and its debris. It isn't the wind nor that which it carries that defines the spirit and the soul, but the center, which holds strong and calm, that stands amidst it all.
