Yeah, I get precisely that feedback in all my portfolio reviews: loosen up, take more risks, etc. Unfortunately, my concern over appearing competent makes me very risk-averse.
This semester I actually/finally did actually try to do one project particularly differently. Although some of the others have really praised it, I think it’s typical art school ingratiation. I think the project is shit, and it got a B- from the prof, which in art school language is equivalent to a D. Not an unpredictable outcome, IMO.
