Ornoth rides again...

With August approaching, it’s once again time to solicit donations for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. I’d appreciate if you’d consider

OrnothIt’s once again that time of year when I chase down all my old friends and ask them to contribute to the Jimmy Fund to support my annual Pan-Mass Challenge ride.

Although last year’s ride ended in a frustrating crash, it was still very satisfying, because I raised a personal record of over $3500 to support cancer research, treatment, and prevention at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

About two weeks ago I met one of my two goals: riding over 10,000 total miles within four years. My other goal is—with your help—to match those 10,000 miles by surpassing $10,000 of lifetime fundraising for DFCI.

While this will be my fourth Pan-Mass ride, this will also be the PMC’s 25th anniversary, and over that time the PMC has contributed over $100 million to the Jimmy Fund. This year’s fundraising goal is $17 million.

The PMC is by far the largest athletic fundraiser in the nation. This one event is the Jimmy Fund’s single largest contributor, and generates 45 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s revenue each year.

I take a great deal of satisfaction in raising so much money to fight cancer, and I hope you’ll be able to help me out this year.

Remember that donations are tax-deductable, and if your employer has a matching gift program, please make use of that benefit.

While cancer is a stubborn and virulant family of diseases, real demonstrable progress is being made every day at cancer centers like Dana-Farber. I’m dedicated to supporting their research, and I’m honored by the contributions I have received.

Well, we're the only two people who list it as an interest, which makes a community hard...There is a bostoncycling community, though.

wow, Sturbridge to Provincetown...Good luck not crashing!
